Slow Down. Unwrap. Enjoy. Chocolate & Self-Care for Busy Women

Doc. Choc here,

Monday mornings are a blur.

Before I’ve even properly woken up, I’m racing into the kitchen for coffee, throwing together a quick breakfast, and heading downstairs to pack orders. Somewhere in between I’m organising my thoughts, trying to remember when I promised myself I’d make it to the gym and the pool for a swim before my helper arrives so we can start packing all the chocolate from the week’s production.

By the time I finally take a break, it’s not about “getting something done” anymore. I just want to notice what’s around me. Is the sun spilling through the gum tree outside? Or is it one of those moody Hobart mornings where the wind feels like it’s blowing straight from Antarctica?

That moment is my pause. It’s the rare part of the day where I let my mind wander without judging it, without trying to be organised or efficient.

The Art of the Little Pause

When I take that moment, it’s often with a tea or matcha — never coffee, because coffee is a work drink. I’ll reach for a coconut chocolate bar or something with hazelnut, because they bring a kind of warmth that feels like an exhale.

There’s something about it — the crumple of the foil, the way light catches it, and then the slow melt across your mouth. The flavour unfolding, the texture changing — it’s not just eating, it’s arriving in the moment.

Flavours that Bring you Back

One of my favourite slow moments happens under the big old gum tree in my backyard (incase you haven’t noticed, I have a real thing for them bahaha), waiting for a batch of honeycomb to cook. I use a wireless thermometer now, so I can wander around without needing to hover over the pot. Sometimes I just sit there, not thinking about anything important, just noticing the warm smell of eucalyptus in the air and the flicker of sunlight filtering through the leaves. I had to buy the new thermometer because I kept doing that before and almost drifting off before waking up in a panic and bolting back into the kitchen. It wasn’t fun…

I get that same (nice) feeling when I sit on Argyle Street in Hobart on a day shift break — phone in my bag, bagel beside me, watching the world go by. Those moments are their own little world.

Why Stopping Actually Helps You Go

I think everyone needs more pauses.

Life’s too unpredictable — you could get hit by a bus tomorrow. That’s morbid, but also freeing. It’s a reminder to stop, breathe, feel your heart rate settle.

And here’s the thing — chocolate contains theobromine, a natural stimulant. So when you do go back to your to-do list, you’ll have a little extra lift in your step.

Stopping doesn’t slow you down — it helps you go further.

An Invitation to Unwrap Something Special

If you’re going to take a pause, make it count. Have a chocolate made with intention, with love, with nostalgia carefully crafted into every bite. Something that brings you back to a really good memory, even if just for a moment.

We make chocolates for exactly that — the small, deliberate pauses in busy women’s lives.
